Catching Up With My Past (Part 4)

More postings from my past:

08-16-02: Synthetic & Naked - I knew this was going to be a long night the get go. Tony and I had a 8:00 am flight from LAX to Alaska (5 hour flight) but I had to close out Naked and spin there till 6:00 am. What we did was take a nap and woke up around 2:00 am to go spin at Synthetic. Pulled up at the Orion right one time and get on the decks. While I was inside spinning Tony decided to get some more sleep in my car. When I was done I came outside, put my records in the back and proceeded to start my car. Tony somehow drained my battery and we had to get a jump to make it over to Naked. Tonight was a special night at Naked as we were celebrating my good friend Reza's Birthday. The crowd was going nuts inside. DJ Irene was on and keeping the crowd going some hard trance. Kinda strange to hear her spin that since the last time I saw her spin she was playing booty house. Reza was on next and got the crowd going with some straight up house. I got on after him and continued taking the crowd on a journey despite the monitor going out on me halfway through my set. The security shut me down at 6:00 but the party was supposed to go on at 7:00. Some security guard got his butt chewed off that morning. Tony and I went back to the car and sinceNaked is at the Grand Ave club, which is only couple of blocks away from Orion, my battery didn't have time to charge. I again go jumped and we drove over to LAX.

07-13-02: Hot Import Nights, Atlantis & The Caddy - Another long night. And this one started early. I first headed of the the LA Convention Center for Hot Import Nights which is a car show focusing on imports. I arrive and I couldn't believe how many people were there. The line to get in seem to strech forever. We got our passes, got through security and headed inside. I have lived in LA all my life but have never been in the Convention Center let alon DJ inside it. The place is massive. I walk down a row of beautiful and expensive custom cars and get to the stage. I start to spin and people are actually dancing at the car show. This wasn't full on club type action but there were pockets of people having a damn good time. It was kinda strange spinning though as it seemed a lot of people were just staring at me. It felt rather odd. After my set a beautiful fire breather got on the stage to please the mainly male audience. I have seen some things in my day but this girl did some rather strange stuff. If you wanna know...email me! lol. My crew and I then headed out for some Sushi in Little Tokyo and then went back to my pad to rest. I still had a couple of hours before I need to get to The Cadillac. We left before 2:00 am and got there at 3:00. The crowd was a little sparse but the people there were dancing hard. I DJed from 3:00 to 4:00 and rocked them hard. It was a good show despite the low turnout. I then head out to Orion to spin at the Trance/Progressive venue of the 3 venue show. When I get there the place is going off. Thomas Michael is keeping them going with his trademark sound. I was supposed to go on at 5:15 but everything was pushed back. That is ok it was supposed to end at 9:00 am. I talk to Jeff and he says they are closing at 6:00. I go back to the balcony to get my records and Thomas asked if I would like to spin the last 20 min. I quickly accepted. That was a very nice gesture from him. The crowd was going off and wanted more and I tried to give them as much as I could in the short time I had. The lights came on. The crowd had one more song and then we hit the streets where the sun greeted us.

06-22-02: Cosmic Force, Lunar Bliss & Escape - What a long night....but boy was it worth it. I first went to the Cadillac for Lunar Bliss and to my surprise the was a nice line already formed when I got there at 10:00. I quickly got on the decks and they opened the doors. The place filled quickly and people were already getting their grooves on. I ended my set at 11:30 and quickly drove (to put it mildly) over to Cosmic Force which was at a new venue in Hollywood called Qtopia. The party was amazing. I went on at 1:00 am and the vibe was just incredible. I checked out the place after my set and I must say I was very impressed by this new venue. I cannot wait to spin there again. The sound was top notch. I chilled outside for a bit and then checked out a little bit of Baby Doc and SJ's set. Once again they were amazing. I then ended my night playin 4:00 to 6:00 am over at Escape. This is one of my fave afterhours. The vibe is great. The setup is great, the sound is great. I think I might become a resident at this place on Friday nights now that they are taking over Friday nights (Bi weekly between Club Naked) over at Grand Ave. I would love to do that. After my set the boys and I headed over to The Pantry for some grub. A great night...epic in every way.

06-08-02: Cotton Cande - Man, talk about a disappointment. This had all the markings of a great party. I got there for my set at 11:00 pm and it was just amazing. Orion was already packed and the party had only been going on for less then 2 hours. I got on the tables and the energy that was coming off of the crowd was just amazing. This was honestly one of the best times spinning I have had at the Orion. The vibe was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. When I was done with my set I decide to take my records to the car when the promoter told me they were going to get busted. I went out the parking lot where I saw two Fire Engines parked and plenty of cop cars also. Damn!!! I took off. I really didn't want to see such a great party have such as sad death.

06-01-02: The Love Festival (Honolulu, Hawaii) - We arrived in Oahu on Friday night and pretty much just passed out from the long plane ride and after switching hotels once we got there. Once we were settled it was all good. I spent 6 days in Hawaii but main reason I was there was to spin at Love Festival. I arrived at the venue about a hour and a half before my set. I watched Reza just rock the packed house. There were so many people at this event the walls were sweating. After Reza's set I went on at Midnight. The crowd just never let up. They ate up the sounds like it was candy. The vibe was intense. The love and magic was in the air on this night. After the set I watched Mars for a little bit and then went back to the hotel. I had to get some sleep, I planned on going up to North Shore the next day to go to Sunset Beach for a little fun in the water. Honestly I cannot express in words how much of a good time I had there. It was honestly amazing. I cannot wait to go back.

04-20-02: California Love - Yet another drive to Orion. Hey I don't mind...it is only 15 min from home. I get there at 11:00 pm for my 11:30 set. I walk in and the place is just rocking. The tables are set up upstairs at the balcony so I head straight there. Kage is blowing up the spot. I get on the decks and the crowd seems to just explode with energy. The vibe is great. People are dancing everywhere. Below me, above me...it just seems like there are bodies moving everywhere. With every minute the energy is increasing. I get off the decks at 1:00 am. Not nearly enough time. I could have gone on forever. This was a amazing party. One that I won't forget anytime soon.

03-01-02: Warehouse (Chicago, IL) - Got in Chi-Town in the afternoon. Quickly went to the hotel and walked down to a great restuarant for dinner. Slept for a while and then woke up to get ready. Apparently about a foot or more of snow fell during my nap. I was picked up and we headed of for the 20 min drive to the club. The snow was coming down really hard. I was hoping people were still going to be coming out. The venue was nice. Good size warehouse converted to a club. Good sound and nice lighting. I chilled for a little bit and got on the decks. The crowd seemed like they were having a good time. Small size but good energy. I am sure the snow kept some people away. All I can say is that there is DJ in Chicago called Loverboy...I will keep the rest to myself...lol.

02-23-02: Secrets of Eden (Denver, CO) - When I got into Denver I was picked up by the promoter and we quickly headed off to get some dinner. I called my good friend Jack who now lives in Denver to join us. We ate at the Rockstone Brewery. Good place for grub. I finally met DJ Andy Hughes from Orlando who was a great guy and shared a lot in common with. DRC soon joined us for some grub. We then headed off for the hotel for a quick nap. Jack picked me up to go the event. It was at a new club in Denver. The venue was very nice. The sound was good but could be a little louder. I tried to fix that when I got on. The crowd just ate up what I spun. The vibe and energy were amazing. It was the best party I have spun in Denver so far. DRC went on after me and she rocked it as usual. I headed back for the hotel, got some sleep and got dropped off by Jack at the airport for the short flight home.

01-19-02: Facination Overload (Freeport, IL) - Arrived at Ohare at about 7:00 pm and was quickly greeted by DRC and T-1000 (Alan Oldhams). We were all spinning at this event and we were all getting driven up by a hired driver in a Lincoln Towncar. Nice! The ride from Chicago to Rockford is about a hour drive. We got up there and DRC and I were shipped off to our hotel. Apparently the party is another 40 min drive away and Alan was staying at a hotel across the street from the venue. Why we all didn't stay in Rockford is beyond me. I check in, order some Papa Johns and watch the rest of the Raiders vs Patriots game. What a great game!! Anyway I take a quick nap and head off to the venue. When I get there the crowd is light but the energy is great. I get on and just go for broke. The crowd ate up my scratching. T-1000 then came on and tore the place up like only he can. I have seen man perform and he is wicked. I head back to the hotel and get some sleep before our early drive back to Chicago.

01-05-02: Work It Out (Dallas, TX) - This was my first time spinning in this part of Texas. I wasn't sure what I was up for. The promoter met me at the airport and took me to the hotel which as very close by. I then proceeded to take a nap for a while. I woke up and got ready to go out. The promoters picked me up and we headed into downtown. The place was like a nice bar with a outside area in the back. The sound was really nice and I just relaxed and had some drinks. I also met some people who used to party in LA. The vibe was nice and the mood was that of a old school party. At about midnight I got on the decks and just let loose. The place seemed to explode in my eyes. It was a great time. DRC then took control of the tables after my set and kept the kids dancing to her sound. I then went back to the hotel to get some rest and get ready for another long flight home.

12-31-01: Together As One - I have not spun a New Years Eve in LA for 3 years until tonight. Since I was in town I also decided to throw a little party at my house. I live right off the Rose Parade route. People spend the night on the streets to see the parade in the morning. It usually gets pretty crazy on the streets. I used to do it when I was in High School. My set time at TOA was pretty early (like 8-9) so it gave me enough time to do everything I wanted. My best friend Mark came over to my house rather early. He came over with a bottle of Padron Tequila. As most of you know I am not a big drinker but since it was New Years and I was at home I was down to get a little drunk. We got to the party around 7 and Mark and I snuck in a flask of Tequila. We started doing shots before I spun. Not to many though. I had to drive home. The party was great. I had such a good time. The event was just going on strong. I checked out the party in full and then went on do do my set. I had a such a great time spinning. I was just a perfect night so far. We headed back to my apartment and partied with friends and family. We made our way to the streets right before midnight and partied. I think I had like 12 shots that night. Damn it was a blur! I woke up to the sound of the Stealth Bomber flying over my place. This was the way they let the people on the parade route know that the parade has started. I somehow managed to get out of bed and walk out to the streets to watch the parade. I honestly don't think I could have had a better New Years....

12-28-01: The Vinyl Experience (Madison, WI) - This was a long night. I got into Milwaukee at about 6:00 pm. Why they didn't fly me directly into Madison is beyond me. Then got picked up and was on the road for 2 hours. Got there, checked into the hotel and then got some dinner. Got ready to get to the venue. It was bitter cold outside. Snow was all over the place. I had to be at the party at midnight so I didn't get a chance to rest much. I got there and the place was a Chinese restuarant. I walked in and the vibe was nice. Made my way downstairs and played til 2:00 am. The crowd was into the music. They were feeling it for sure. I then made my way back to the hotel to get my stuff. No time to sleep since my flight was at 6:45 am. I got to the airport right on time. I then landed in Memphis and proceeded to make my next plane. Only problem is that it wasn't there. My flight was supposed to leave at 9:00 am. I didn't leave till 5:00 pm!!!!! WHAT THE HELL!!! Man on top of being tired I was now bored and tired. I finally got home about 7:30. Man it was nice to be home. A little to nice though. I was supposed to spin at Orion for the Electric Kool Aid Test at 4:00 am. I didn't get a chance to though. I slept right through it. I guess my body didn't want me to go out that night.

12-15-01: Phuture - As soon as I landed back in LA I had to head straight to San Bernardino to the Orange Show. Phuture started at 2:00 pm and from what I was told I was supposed to go on at 3:30. I got there a few minutes before that and quickly made my way to the stage where Darky was spinning. The stage looked awesome but no one was in the room. Darky and I tagged teamed for a little bit and I spun till about 5:00. I then hung out with Paule and checked out the party. The wind was picking up and when the sun set it was getting a bit chilly. I also hung out with Danny and Peter from Teknoklub and just pretty much had a good time. My body was catching up with me though and by 7:30 I was ready to get some sleep. I really wanted to check out some of the talent that was going to be there. And from all accounts the party started getting good later in the night. By 9:00 I was at home, in bed asleep. Hardcore, huh???

12-14-01: Radioactivity (El Paso, TX) - Another great time in Texas. I flew out in the evening and got to El Paso at about 7:15. I didn't have much time to rest so I checked in to the hotel and ordered some room service. I got picked up at about 10:30. I had such a killer headache. I am not sure what was wrong with me so I picked up some Tylenol from a 7-11 on the way to the event. When I got there Timmy Phatts was DJing and playing some wicked filtered house to the crowd. It was strange but apparently there was some confusion if I was really going to be at this event. When I walked in it seemd the party started coming alive. Maybe it was just strange timing but it did seem like they were waiting for me to get there because when I got on stage (mind you, this is about a 40 min before I start at midnight) it seemed like the kids got more into the party. I got on the decks and the place just blew up. It was crazy. After my set some girl asked me to sign her shoes... that was cool. After my set Koppertop got on the decks and just kept the crowd going further. I have seen him spin several times and was so impressed each time that I wanted him as part of the Biohazard Crew. He now represents Biohazard in Utah. I had to head back and get some sleep for my early flight back to LA. I had to spin at Phuture in a few hours.

12-08-01: The WOW Festival - This event was being thrown by Matrix Family. I have worked with them for many years now and they have always been very supportive to me. So much in fact they actually hired Chris (Bitwise) and I to do our first ever live show. We were both very excited to get our music out there. We wrote a bunch of new tunes and Chris put it all together so that we were ready to rock. We had a great time slot. From 12-1. It was perfect. We got to the venue (Orion) early and set up our stuff. At 12 we took the stage. I scratched and played one of the synths while Chris used the laptop and the two other synths. Looking back at it now I wish we would have had more uptempo music for the timeslot. The first 25 minutes of the set was about 130 bpm. When we got to the higher bpm stuff the crowd seemed more responsive. This event was a big learning experience for both Chris and I. We went back into the studio after and programmed a live set with a faster and tighter feel. I thank Johnny and NDE though for my first live performance experience. It was very memorable.

12-01-01: Merry X-Mas Charlie Brown & Plastic Fantasic - If you didn't see the flyer for Merry X-Mas, it is quite humorous. It had Charly Brown dressed as candy kid complete with facial piercings and pleaty of beads. I again had to spin early because I had to get over to Downtown LA to spin later in the night. Merry X-Mas was held at the Cadillac. The vibe was so thick. The minute you walked in you could tell this was just going to be a great night. I spun my set which seemed to start things off on a positive note. I then stayed around and chilled for a bit before I headed off to LA. When I got to the Carousel the crowd was small but they seemed really eager to get things going on the floor. As soon as I started spinning the crowd just ate it up. It was really odd. It seemed like kids were coming out of the woodworks and just dancing. The vibe was great. People were hooting and hollering for a lack of better words. I left the party very content and took the short drive home to sleep.
