Catching Up With My Past (Part 5)

More tidbits from my past:

02-16-03: Project Love Groove - I pretty much got in straight from Salt Lake City and had to make my way over to Qtopia to go spin at Project Love Groove. When I got there there was a huge line outside waiting to get in. I got inside to find no one inside yet. Apparently the Fire Marshall decided to stop by and check the place out for about a hour, leaving the people outside confused. Eventually the doors did open and Thomas Michael and I tag teamed for about 40 mins. Not long enough I tell you. The crowd was ROCKING. Everybody there seemed to be loving the vibe. The sound and lighting was great. I left right before DJ Dan came on (sleep called) but I heard he rocked it like only he can. Damn wish I would have stayed.

02-15-03: Luv 2K (Salt Lake City, UT) - Wow, what an amazing night. Mars and I got into Utah at around 8:00pm. We quickly headed of to the hotel and checked in. I wasn't there long. My set started at 11:00 and I was picked up at 10:15 or so. We then headed off to the venue. The party was in a place called Saltair. It is like this beautiful concert hall/castle on the shores of the Great Salt Lake but in the middle of nowhere. I walked in through the back and checked out the stage. There were over 2000 kids rocking out. The stage setup and sound were both excellent. I was doing a 2x4 with fellow Biohazard DJ and SLC local Koppertop. He and I have known each other a long time and but this was our first attempt at spinning together. We started off with progressive trance. The crowd was fiending for each beat. The energy was simply amazing. By the time our set was done the crowd was ready for the hard and melodic set that Mars had in store for the crowd. By far one the best out of state events I have had to chance to perform at. The next morning I woke up and rushed to the airport just to get stuck there when my flight was delayed for 3 and half hours. Oh well...almost a perfect weekend :)

02-08-03: Hazardous - Our 3rd Hazardous event taking place at Orion. I feel they keep getting better and better. The vibe was great and smiling faces seemed to be everywhere. Got to pass out over 100 of the new Reef Project CD's. Andy Hughes from Orlando came out and put on a great set. Bitwise also did a great job with his epic live performance. I have to say all the Biohazard DJ's represented well this night. I cannot wait till the next Hazardous event. If you like a great vibe and good music...I think you should check it out. :)

02-01-03: Pajama Jam - I didn't know what to expect but I got more then I bargained for walking into Pajama Jam. It was crazy. There were half naked women EVERYWHERE!! It was such a strange site. I felt I was at the wrong party but I knew I wasn't. The crowd was huge. The energy was intense. I walked as Asylum was spinning a great set as he usually does. The sound was not as good as it should have been as the monitors were barely working. Dyloot and I were supposed to do a 2x4 but those dreams were shattered as we discovered the second system wasn't working properly. No problem...we just went back to back then playing 2 songs each. The set was good but the sound problem and crowded stage gave us a couple of problems. Not a big deal we just did what we could and just rocked it. This party was one to remember. I am sure this will be the annual event to go to to get your freak on.

12-21-02: Bionic - What a great event. When I walked into the party there was this huge waterfall placed inside Orion. It was so amazing. I have never seen anything quite like it. The vibe inside was intense. The lasers, the lighting and the waterfall added an atmosphere I have never quite seen at Orion. It was great. At about 4:00 I got on and quickly got into my 2 hours set. I started off housey and the crowd just ate it up. The energy and love coming from the room was just amazing. I never wanted it to end. Unfortunately it did, but the memories I have of that night will live on and on.

11-26-02: Glitter & Glamour at The Wave (Honolulu, HI) - The past two days I spent a lot of time in North Shore watching the huge waves pound the shore. On the way back on Monday night my dad and I found this local only beach. Since most people thought we were Haawaiin anway (we got asked for directions a lot) we decided to check it out. All I can say, me and my dad at the beach. It felt like I was 8 years old again and he was taking me down to Hermosa to learn how to boogie board. On Tuesday he packed up and I dropped him off at the airport. I still had another 2 days but my dad was heading out early. That night I headed over to my second gig that week over at The Wave. I love this place. Reza and I spun here the last time I was in Hawaii and I am glad he introduced me to the place. I got onto the decks at midnight and played a two hour set that ranged from house to trance. The crowd was really mixed and most of them were getting into it. It was another great night in Hawaii. The promoter for the night, Flash, is such a great guy. He, along with G, took great care of me and my dad that week. Thanks and Mahalo to both of them. Cannot wait to go back.

11-23-02: Dieselboy Show (Honolulu, HI) - I flew into Hawaii with getting no sleep from the night before but that couldn't stop my excitement of being in my favorite place. My dad who flew in the night before met me up at the airport. We waited for our ride and when he came we headed out first to meet up with Flash. He is the promoter and manager for Wave Waikiki, a popular club on the island. I wasn't DJing for him until Tuesday but he had the hotel info so after we got that we headed off to the hotel. I tried to get some sleep but I must admit it was hard. I just love being on the Island. After some rest I got picked up by G, the promoter of the Dieselboy and all around great guy, to head over to the club. First time I have ever been to this place but it was great. The place was still getting filled when I walked in but when I got on the decks the crowd started to get into it. I was opening for Dieselboy who I go way back with so I wanted to give him a good crowd. Although I don't spin Drum n' Bass I tried to get the energy up there for his set. By the time he got on the crowd was just ready to ggo. I hung out for a bit and then headed off back to the hotel for some sleep. The next day I had lunch with G and then picked up a Rental Car for the rest of my stay. The next two days I explored the island with my dad and had one of the best times I could ever imagine. It was amazing being able to spend this time with my father and find new places on a island we both wish was home.

11-16-02: Shine & Pure @ Sugar - You know is going to be a great birthday when it lands on a Saturday. The first plan for the night was to go have a huge dinner over at Bucca Di Beppo in Santa Monica. At about 7:00 the limo picked us all up and we were off. There are only a few times of the year where I will really drink it up and my B-day is one of those times. We started early by drinking in the limo. Since we had vodka we made a pit stop for some Red Bulls and we were all set. When we sat down to go eat our party was so large we needed two large tables and the people sitting next to us were already drinking and being loud so we felt right at home. We ate, drank and partied well until we had to leave to go to Sugar. I was a feeling a little bit drunk when I got there but that didn't seem to faze my DJing at all. Actually by all accounts it seemed to help!!! LOL. The set went down smooth and the place was nicely filled. The 2 hour set didn't seem long enough and before I knew it we were in the limo again and I was being dropped off in front of the Orion to spin at Shine. When I walked inside Feelgood was tearing up the decks. I soon got on and the energy burst open. The vibe and love from the room filled me up. After I got off so many people wished me a happy b-day. It was a great night and one I won't forget anytime soon. Thanks to Jboy for taking my ass home.

11-15-02: Teknoklub - What a great night...it was about to be my b-day at midnight and when I got to the club I was welcomed with promoters and friends wishing me a happy birthday. I was closing the night out after Binary Finary and before I got a chance to get on Danny came on the mic and had the crowd sing me Happy B-day. The vibe and love in the air almost overwhelmed me. I knew this was going to be the start to a great weekend.

10-26-02: Monster Massive & Naked - I knew this event was going to be huge but DAMN!!! This was a monster sized event with a vibe to match. I went with Jboy, Chris Ewen and Torin and when we got to the event we had some issues parking. Why is always a pain to park at the Sports Arena. We walked in...got our passes and made our way to the area I was spinning. I was actually dressed in costume this year. I was dressed as a chef... LOL. Getting to the area was a little difficult due the large crowd but I got there as Signal were performing and doing a great job hyping up the crowd into a frenzy. I got ready to get on and Joe from Signal introduced me to the crowd. I tore into my set and had a great time. DJ Funk who was on after me then got on showed LA was true Ghetto House was. We checked out the party some and when I went to get paid Reza (the main man behind this event) asked me if I wanted to play afterhours over at Naked. Never passing by a opportunity to spin I said sure. We get to Denny's in between the two shows to get some food and then make our way over to the Grand Ave. Got there and not many people there but as I started spining more and more people showed up. By the time I was done the place was packed and everyone was having a great time. What a great way to end my day. It was a night to remember.

10-25-02: Hazardous - We were invited to do a last minute Biohazard event at the Orion the day before Monster Massive. We decided to try it out and see what happens. Since it was the night before the biggest event of the year we weren't expecting that much but we were surprised with the results. We got a little over 200 people that seemed to have the best vibe in the world. The party was excellent and the guys played really well. It looks like we will be doing more of these events soon so be on the lookout.

10-19-02: Sin & Lunar Madness - I got back home to rest a hour and half before I had to head out to OC for a new 21 and over club called Sin. I got there for my 11:30 set right on time. There was only one problem. NO MONITORS!!! Oh well. I just mixed in the headphones and kept things going that way. The crowd was light in my room (Being that there was Hip Hop going on in the other room) but the people that were there seemed to enjoy it. The crowd was filled with beautiful people. The location is great. Pool tables, 2 bars and a patio. I had a great time. By the end of my set the room filled up some and things went smoothly despite the no monitors problem. I am glad I am going to be spinning hear often. I know this place is going to start going off!! I left at 2:00 and headed over to Orion to promote for Hazardous and catch some of Kimball Collins set at Lunar Madness. Great set. Good energy and vibe. The sound was pretty good in Orion tonight and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I went on at 4:00 right after Kimball and played some old epic trance that made me feel like 1998 was happening all over again. I played "Gamemaster" and "For An Angel" and both of those tracks seemed to keep things going well into the morning. This was a great event and the promoter Eric Scott deserves mad props for putting on such a good show.

10-18-02: Spundae (San Francisco) - I can say it again and again. I love San Fran. Everything about it. It is just beautiful to me. I love driving there also. Taking the 1 and just looking at the ocean most of the way is amazing. I took the trip in 2 days (stayed in Pismo Beach the first night) and got into Berkeley at about 8:00 on Friday night. I first headed to Skills DJ Workshop where I met up with my friend Dyloot. His store is amazing. Clean, well stocked and just a fun place to be. After dinner I headed into the city and rested at the place I was staying. I then headed over to Spundae at about 2:00 to catch Dyloot play. The crowd was into it big time. The system sounded great. I checked out the entire place. It was huge. 3 stories and 4 dance floors. I got on at 3:00 and the crowd just seem to really push out the energy. I was very happy with the set and the reaction from the crowd. Tom Slik came on after me and started to rock the crowd hard as I left to get some sleep before a long journey back home.

10-05-02: Teknoklub - Finally!!! I have been waiting for the return of Teknoklub with anticipation. I was so happy they moved it to Qtopia. When I got there the sound was pumping. Donald Glaude was tearing the roof off and everyone was having a great time. I will be the first to admit that following Donald is kinda strange. I like hyping up a crowd when I am on but doing it after him just seems silly. Anything I would do wouldn't come close to the energy Donald seems to create. By the end of his set he was near 145 bpm. I was like DAMN!! lol. Thankfully Danny of TK came on to announce me and I started my set fresh at about 135. I kept the crowd going till the end of the night and playing Skydive again after not playing it for a while seemed to remind the crowd and myself why we love music and love raving. A great night and a great club.

08-17-02: Volume (Anchorage, AK) - Tony and I got into Alaska at about noon on Saturday. We were both exhausted but Shane (the promoter and DJ Samuri) wanted to take us to get something to eat. We didn't mind of couse being that Alaska Airlines barely gave us anything. After we ate we headed off to the hotel to get some sleep. Tony was going on at 10:00 and Shane was going to pick him up at 9:30. I woke up at nine and Tony was still asleep. I woke him up just as Shane was knocking on the door. Tony quickly got up and headed out. Shane was going to pick me up in about 30 mins so I got ready. When I got to the party Tony was playing some amazing house music that got the kids going. The scene up there is amazing. No one sitting on the floor. No bad vibes. I guess because they don't get raves every weekend they aren't jaded. They love every minute of every event. I went on after Tony and the crowd just exploded. The energy was high and I kept them going until Shane went on. Then all hell broke loose. He is a hometown favorite and it is easy to see why. He got on the decks and the crowd ate up his melodic hard trance from the first beat. After his set we got some Taco Bell and headed back to the hotel for some sleep. The next day the promoters took us sight seeing. Alaska is a beautiful state. One that I hope to go back to again and again.
