Recently I have been using my mobile studio more and more during the writing phase of producing tracks. The reason is simple. I can create anywhere. In my house. On The Road. Getting some Starbucks. It is great to start the creative process wherever I feel. I still finish the tracks in my regular studio space but since I have all the same software on my MacBook Pro that I have on my studio Mac, it is easy to transfer files.
What I am currently using for my mobile setup is the following:
17" Mac Book Pro 2.4 Duo Core - The core of my setup. Works great and looks great doing it.
Logic Studio - My DAW software of choice. I have been using Logic for over 8 years and I find it very intuitive and powerful. It is what I started using in the beginning of my production career and what I will continue to use.
Native Instruments Komplete 5 - This is pretty much a complete package of amazing synths and effects. It includes all of the most popular NI software plug ins. Since I also have it on my studio computer it makes it very easy to take that tracks to and from each setup.
Spectrasonics Omnisphere - I just got this plug in not to long ago. It is HUGE. The library is over 50 gigs. The sounds that comes out of this synth is just gorgeous. It is something I will be using a lot of on new tracks
Novation Nocturn - I wanted a small controller to help me control the parameters on my plug-ins. The Novation Nocturn is just what I needed. It has a small footprint and it's software allows complete control and gives me a great tactile feel.
Blue Microphone Snowflake - Blue makes incredible mics. This is their smallest and has a great sound for it's size. It also connects via USB which is great as I don't have need a sound card with XLR's to connect. Great for mobile podcasters.
M-Audio Microtrack II - I use this mainly for recording my live gigs but I also use it for field recordings and when ideas strike and I need a place to to record them.
