I started DJing in 1986 when I was 13 years old. Wow, seems like a few lifetimes ago. I was in Jr. High and when I first started playing I was really into Freestyle, Miami Bass and Electro. This was pretty much the sound of the SGV backyard party scene in the late 80's. I will always have a special place in my heart for that sound and that ERA.
Many DJ's around my age grew up with that sound also. So when Steve Loria called me about an 80's all vinyl club he was starting in April, I said "Hell Yes, I would love to do it. Problem was though I lost a majority of my 80's dance music in a fire at my Mom's house in 1997. So, I hopped on Discogs and bought all my favorites. I had enough time before the first time I played at Passion for the purchases to get shipped to me. So when the night came I was ready. First off, I love the spot. The El Dorado bar has a old speakeasy kind of vibe to it. I really enjoyed playing all those classic tracks on vinyl too. The one thing I did not miss was carrying vinyl up and down a flight of stairs though. Digital clearly has advantages.
This set was recorded at my 3rd appearance at Passion. It was recorded via live streaming on a phone so there is a lot of crowd noise and the audio could have been better. But you can feel the energy while listening. I tried to clean it up as much as I could but it is what it is. Enjoy this flashback in time.
