So this was the second time that Oscure and I have dropped a DnB set together. The first time was at Timeless in Dec 2016 and it was so much fun that we had to do it again. I am glad Jeremy from Timeless asked us to be a part of his Booty BBQ Park Party. It was a beautiful afternoon and a damn good time. Oscure and I have some big things planned for 2018 so be on the look out. But for now revisit that afternoon in the park where he and I dropped some DnB!
You know I love me some Drum N Bass. I could have easily gone down that path in 1993 as I was playing a lot of breakbeat techno at the time but when more genres started off shooting I ended up following the melodic and futuristic tones of trance and hard trance. But I always listened. When DJ's like R.A.W. and CRS? would be on the same bill, I would check them out. I would always spend a little time in the Jungle room at parties. In 1997 when I first heard Progression Sessions by LTJ Bukem is when I really fell in love with his style of smoothed out jazzy DnB which can now be called Liquid.
Although I do love the energy of the Jump Up stuff, since I was DJing at a Sunday Park Party I kept it on the chill tip. Actually I am listening to this mix as I am typing this and totally fits the mountain location I find myself in at the moment. So let's get into this mix. Hope you enjoy.

I have a huge love of Drum N’ Bass. One of my favorite mixes back in the early 90’s was a double pack that R.A.W. came out with called “R.A.W. is Dead”. It was a double pack that had some of the best dark and twisted music I ever heard. While I originally played breakbeat techno when I first started DJing raves I quickly morphed into other genres as the music started to become more diversified.
However the love of Dn’B never left. I even did a mix of it in 1995 that you can hear below.
I always loved the LTJ Bukem style of Dn’B. When I heard the first Progression Sessions mix in 1997 I quickly fell in love with that sound and that series of mixes. Recently I started listening again to those mixes and newer mixes by other artists like DJ Marky and those on Hospitality. I started collecting some music also and I had the bright idea to just put it out there on Facebook that I would like to play a random Dn’B set.
Lo and behold, my buddy Sal from Audiophile Family decided the throw an event and have me headline. I wasn’t expecting that at all. It really excited to play a style that I am not known for. I didn’t want to do the music an injustice but I did want to show my love for the style. That was what this was really about. Just the love of the music. I didn’t know if I was going to go down in flames trying to DJ this style. I mean, I haven’t played this kind of music in 20 years.
At the show, in a warehouse in Riverside, I was nervous, but it was that nervous excitement. I played for little over an hour and I loved every second of it. I couldn’t really tell how the mix would come out but after I listened to it when I got home I was pretty happy with it. So here it is and I hope you enjoy it. I don’t know when the next time I will be able to get to play some Drum N’ Bass again but I hope it isn’t another 20 years. It was too much fun and can’t wait for the next one.
