I really have to get better at this blogging thing. I mean I have things to say and opinions to share but for some reason I just can’t find the time to actually put them down in blog style format. I am going to try and change that up. So expect a few over the next few days as I get caught up on all my recent live mixes.
So Alhambra has been a House music hot spot lately. With Revival happening every Tuesday and now Soulful Sundays holding court on the upstairs patio at Fronteras Mexican Grill on Main Street, it is a good time to be a Househead on the Eastside.
I recently played twice at Soulful Sundays with Steve Loria on both dates. This set is from the first date in early August. It was a great time with a packed floor and a great vibe. During the middle of my set I mixed in a little freestyle into my set as I could tell the crowd that was there would appreciate the mini flashback. So turn this out and get your groove on. Look for me to come back to Soulful Sundays soon.
I don't get to DJ very often back to back with cohort Jason Blakemore, so it is always a honor to do so. He and I started off in the LA underground around the same time in the early 1990's and we have played at so many parties over the years together that seeing each other was very commonplace.
One thing that wasn't commonplace was us DJing together. This is only the 3rd time it has happened in the 22 years we have both been DJing in the scene.
Frooty Loops was a fun show. Driving out to San Bernardino reminded me of all the times I used to DJ out at the Masterdome and The Hudson. I got there before Jason so I started off the set. He started around the 30min mark of this mix. We then went back and forth every 3 songs or so. It was a pleasure to DJ with man, JB! I hope to do it again soon. Hope you enjoy the set.
Live set from 2 of Los Angeles's most prolific underground DJ's. A rare back to back set captured at the recent event, "Frootyloops". Tracklisting to come.
Man I am late at posting these mixes up here. So prepare yourself for the onslaught of new mixes and music. It is Monday after all, so that means Music Mondays to me.
Stylus was invited to DJ at Sound to open for the man Ben Pearce. Rob got the chance to play for close to 3 hours on one of the best systems in Los Angeles, what a treat. The crowd built up slowly but by 11:30pm, Sound was jam-packed and going off. For the mix we started deep and kept teasing with the energy throughout our set.
This mix is is a little bit under 2 hours. I hope you enjoy and get on down to it.
Our mix from Sound Nightclub on 10/24/14 opening for Ben Pearce. Was a great night and we hope you enjoy the set. Tracklisting coming soon.
What a great day. We moved our Sub Merge parties to the Roosevelt in Hollywood and what can I say, other that is was a beautiful party. The venue is fantastic. The drinks are strong. The vibes were epic. One of the great pleasures of the past 2 years for me is DJing with my buddy Rob as Stylus. I feel we play off each other well and we always have a good time. We haven't played together in over a month before this show, but if there was any rust, I surely couldn't tell. We rocked the decks for 2 hours opening up for the one and only Doc Martin. It was honor to have him grace the decks after us and the party sure went live then. Here is our 2 hour set at Sub Merge. I hope you enjoy it.
I guess I am playing catch up on my website. I get so busy sometimes that I forget to update my own site with my new mixes and track. So prepare for some fast and furious blog posting.
This was a great night. The location was about 2 hours away from Downtown LA and I ended up getting to the event at around 3:30 am. When I got there, my good friend Tony Gamboa hadn't started his set yet so we both decided to do a impromptu back to back set. It was pretty fucking awesome. I haven't DJed with Tony like that in a while but it didn't feel like it. We would drop 3 songs and let the other on take over for 3. The small crowd of dancers kept us going for 3 hours. The sun rose and we would dance while the other was in control of the decks. It was a beautiful sunrise and a awesome way to spend a Sunday morning. Here is a portion of our set that morning. Download and groove. I hope you enjoy.
